Oregami

We got a book on Oregami as a Xmas present together with lots of different colour paper sheets and we've already done some shapes following the instructions. It's not easy but it's fun!!

Easter eggs - Huevos de Pascua

We decorated some hard-boiled eggs with 'tempera' paint and salt dough for the 'accessories'. The final product is yet to be seen.

Salt dough - Pasta de Sal

Salt Dough—fun for all ages!
Note: there are many variations on this simple recipe. Our advice is to experiment until you get exactly what you want.
Ingredients:

4 cups flour

1 cup salt

1-1/2 cups hot water (from tap)

2 teaspoons vegetable oil (optional)

Mix the salt and flour together, then gradually add the water until the dough becomes elastic. (Some recipes call for 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil at this point.) If your mixture turns out too sticky, simply add more flour. If it turns out too crumbly, simply add more water. Knead the dough until it’s a good consistency—then get out rolling pins, cups, bowls, straws, cookie cutters, plastic utensils, and let the fun begin!
If you want colored dough, mix food coloring, powdered drink mix, or paint into the water before adding it to the dry ingredients. Or you can paint your creations after baking them at 200 degrees. Baking times will vary depending on the size and thickness of the object, but make sure that all of it is hard. If the dough starts to darken before cooking is complete, cover with aluminum foil. Painted keepsakes will need to be sealed on all sides with clear varnish or polyurethane spray.
You can store your salt dough in a sealed container in the refrigerator, but usually not more than a couple of days.

Ingredientes: (para hacer a mansalva, reducir cantidades proporcionalmente según se necesite)
4 tazas de harina
1 taza de sal fina
1 parte de agua tibia

2 cucharaditas de aceite vegetal

Procedimiento:
Colocar en un recipiente amplio la harina y la sal. Con la mano mezclar con movimientos envolventes e ir agregando el agua poco a poco. Debes ir incorporando muy bien el agua para que no quede muy liquido. Sigue mezclando hasta que se desprenda facilmente de las paredes del recipiente.
Una vez que tengas lista la pasta, debes amasarla unos diez minutos hasta obtener una consistencia suave, elástica y tibia al tacto. Luego debes dejarla reposar en una bolsa por una hora.

Para darle color puedes usar colorantes de repostería o bien pintarla después de ser modelada. Se cuece al horno a temperatura media hasta que se endurece y ya tenéis las figuritas de vuestros hijos para la posteridad.

Homemade Stilts - Zancos Caseros

We made some stilts out of Annabel's empty powder milk tins. It's easy and it's fun!!!

Make 2 holes on opposite sides of the empty tin (1/2 Kg tomato tins are fine). Use about 60cm nylon string (depending on kid's height), put the string through the holes and make knots. Fill tins up with sand, as to make them heavier (optional). Use a plastic lid such as baby powder milk tins' and glue up with silicone or strong glue.


Hemos hecho unos zancos con las latas vacías de leche en polvo para la Annabel. Es fácil y divertido!!!


Con un punzón de tipo abrelatas, haced agujeros en los lados de una lata vacía de medio kilo de tomate por ejemplo (según el tamaño del pie del niño). Cortad un tramo de cordón de nylon de aproximadamente 60 cms (según altura niño), meted el hilo a través de agujeros y haced nudos. Rellenad de arena, para que pese un poquito (opcional). Ponedle una tapa de plástico tipo tapa lata de leche para bebés y selladla con silicona.

Juego para niño de seis años en adelante. Aunque caerse de está altura no sería peligroso, mejor no caerse.

Bird Houses - Pajareras

Marc and Rowan concentrate on putting together their bird houses and painting them. The boys love crafts: we have fun together, it keeps them entertained, it's good for their concentration and it helps them relax while developing their creativity. They enjoy working with clay, salt dough, plasticine, watercolour painting, drawing, cut out paper, make bookmarks with dry leaves (previously collected by them) o with pergamano paper... There are so many things to do!!

Marc y Rowan se concentran en montar sus pajareras y en pintarlas. A los chicos les encantan las manualidades: pasamos un buen rato, entretenidos, es bueno para su concentració y se relajan mientras desarrollan su creatividad. Les gusta trabajar con arcilla, pasta de sal, plastilina, pintar con acuarelas, dibujar, recortar papel, hacer puntos de libro con hojas secas (recogidas por ellos mismos) o con papel de pergamano... Hay tantas cosas que hacer!!
